Perhaps one of the most aesthetic beaches on Mahe and one of the best for
swimming. It is well protected with stunning granite boulders on either sides.
This contributes to its very fine, powdered sand and smooth gradient. It is
one of the most popular beaches for picnics and perhaps has the highest
concentration of people during the weekends. The beach is equally popular as a
stop over for yacht charters.
Port Launay beach is very well maintained and is regularly cleaned by STAR
Seychelles. The beach being directly in the Port Launay Marine Park also has
one of the stations for the Seychelles Marine Park Authority.
The Sundown Restaurant - Fish and Seafood Restaurant:
We can recommend the nearby Sundown restaurant by Port Glaud, overlooking
L'islette and a bay. This small family run restaurant with its simple
furniture offers a genuine Creole cuisine with fish specialties and a wide
variety of seafood. Fish Curry, Grilled Fish etc. are served with rice.
Don't be afraid to try the Octopus, Green Sea Snail or Bat Curry (seasonal).
