Silhouette is the third largest island of the Seychelles Archipelago. It
comprises an area of 2,500 hectares and is located ten miles away from the
north-west coast of Mahé. We recommend this island for nature loving guests
and hiking fans, due the fact that on Silhouette
there are no streets and only two paths which connect the north and south
part of the island. They lead over the 780 m high mountain and along the
wild coast line, empty of human inhabitants. There are many possibilities
for snorkelling among the reefs in the protected lagoon before the lodge but
it is recommend to bring swimming shoes. In the diving school the English
speaking instructor has all the necessary equipment for diving excursions.
The water is crystal clear and a paradise for underwater photographers. With
a few exceptions, life on Silhouette is much the same as it was a hundred
years ago. The roughly 200 island inhabitants live of the growth of
coconuts, cinnamon, coffee, avocados and tobacco. There are very few day
excursions to the island so the hotel guests and locals are very rarely
disturbed.
Rooms/Accommodation: The Island Lodge is situated in a palm tree forest
directly on the beach and offers Standard Bungalows with private terrace,
shower/toilet, and ceiling fan as well as Deluxe Bungalows with an additional
sitting area, minibar and a second small bedroom for one person. In the main
building you will find the reception desk, bar, boutique and lounge. The
restaurant serves Italian and Creole dishes.
Activities: Two wide paths connect the north with the south of the
island and lead over the 2200 ft high mountains and along the
rugged, secluded coastline. Snorkelling is possible in the lagoon protected by
a coral reef in front of the lodge (bathing shoes are recommended). In the
diving school, the English-speaking instructor provides guests with the
necessary equipment. The waters are absolutely clear and a real paradise for
underwater photographers.
