2. day: Arrival on Réunion
Welcome at the airport by your travel guide and transfer to Hotel
Juliette Dodu in St. Denis, where you will spend your first night.
3. day: First trekking leg: Salazie - Mafate
A transfer takes you to Salazie and Col des Bouefs, where
your first trekking leg starts. You hike about 2,5 hours in the
Cirque (= basin) de Mafate through the Plaine des Tamarins
to La Nouvelle. In La Nouvelle you spend the night in a hut.
4. day: Second trekking leg: Cirque de Mafate
In the early morning you leave Nouvelle direction Ilet Cimendal.
After a challenging ascent you reach Roche Plate, where you
overnight in a hut.
5. day: Third trekking leg: Cirque de Mafate
With constant ascent along the riverbed of the Rievere des Galests
you reach the waterfall of Trois Roches. This fantastic formation
is located on the headwater of the river, where the water falls into
a deep valley and the scenery reminds of the European Alps. The next
aim is Marla, where you spend the night in a hut.
6. day: Fourth trekking leg: Mafate - Cilaos
Today you hike from Marla to Cilaos. First of all you have to manage
a steep ascent to reach the circa 1800 metres high Col de Taibit.
At good weather you can see the village Cilaos from the top. The
descent to Cilaos leads through a Cryptomeria forest. In Cilaos you
stay at the hotel Le Vieux Cep.
7. day: Fifth trekking leg: Cilaos
From Cilaos it takes about 45 minutes to reach a view point on the
Roche Merveilleuse. After this hike you have time to visit the
hot springs. In the afternoon you hike circa 4 hours on the
Piton des Neiges. The night you spend in a hut.
8. day: Sixth trekking leg: Piton des Neiges
Early in the morning you climb the peak (circa 2 hours) to enjoy the
sunrise. On the way back you stop in the hut for a hearty breakfast.
At around noon you will be back in Cilaos. A transfer takes you to
the volcano region. Overnight stay in a hut on the foot of the
volcano.
9. day: Seventh trekking leg: Cilaos - volcano - St. Gilles
In the early morning you start for a 5-hour trekking tour around
the edge of the crater. Although this tour is not too challenging, some
guests might have difficulty with the oxygen-deficient air. In the
afternoon you will be transfered to St. Gilles. There you spend
another 6 nights for recreation in the Hotel Les Créoles. Various
excursions, helicopter sightseeing flights and mountain bike tours
can be arranged.
14. day: Flight back to Germany
